When you self publish, it’s usually a good idea to have a business entity to publish under. Dusty Rabbit Media is my business which I hope to expand to include table top gaming products as well as development editing services, interior design and layout, cover design, and more.
You will notice that my rabbit isn’t really a rabbit. It’s a jackalope. I genuinely love dragons and unicorns, but I wanted something that was more of a bridge between the mundane and the fantastical. Hence, the Jackalope.
In terms of design, I have a tendency to prefer things that are very clean, straight hard lines, crisp minimalist designs. But to me, that doesn’t invoke a sense of magic and wonder. So I decided to go way outside my comfort zone when putting together elements for my logo. I wanted something that feels like it came out of a dusty old fairy tale book, something that reminded the viewer of heraldry, and illuminated manuscripts. I also prefer brighter, bolder, more saturated colors, but for Dusty Rabbit brand you’ll find I tend to use less saturated, more muted colors.
The Jackalope, (his name is Finnian) is facing left. This is representative of looking to the past rather than the future. To the forgotten parts of our past, where myth and legend were born, and where magic and mystery still remain.
